Exmoor Cottage Holidays

Description: Four comfortable two and three bedroom holiday cottages in a peaceful courtyard, each with a log burning stove and small private garden. The cottages have been converted from a former farm, "Town Tenement", which is at least 200 years old. The cottages retain much of their historic charm whilst being warm, comfortable and well equipped.

The cottages are surrounded by large and interesting gardens, with an abundance of trees, plants and wildlife. There are several lawned and wooded areas, a wildlife pond which is home to five free range ducks and a delightful walk up and around Humphrey's Hill. The grounds occupy a peaceful location in the sheltered valley of Challacombe, which is within the Exmoor National Park. Within a few minutes walk there is a friendly shop/post office and a traditional inn with good food and real ales.

The FARMHOUSE (sleeps 6).
The sitting room has an original stone floor and an impressive inglenook fireplace with two bread ovens and a wood burning stove. There is comfortable seating and a TV with VCR/DVD/CD player. The farmhouse kitchen has an oil-fired Rayburn and is fully equipped (including microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker). The separate dining room also serves as a second sitting room, with dining table and chairs, comfortable seating and another TV. There are three bedrooms upstairs (a double and two twins), a bathroom (with large corner bath, hand basin, WC, and heated towel rail) and a separate shower room/WC. All bedrooms have southerly views overlooking the courtyard. The Rayburn provides constant hot water and heats the kitchen and a radiator on the upstairs hall; the other principal rooms are heated by electric night-storage radiators and the bathroom and shower-room by electric hot-air blowers. There is a small enclosed patio to the front of the house, and a larger private garden to the rear, accessed by a stable door from the kitchen.

INGLENOOK (sleeps 4)
The sitting room has an inglenook fireplace with a bread oven and log burner stove. There is comfortable seating, a TV with VCR/DVD/CD player and southerly views overlooking the courtyard. The kitchen is fully equipped (including microwave, toaster and coffee maker). A stable door opens from the kitchen onto a small private garden. There are two bedrooms upstairs (a double and twin) and a bathroom with bath, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. The main bedroom has a double aspect and a feature fireplace; the single bedroom has southerly views overlooking the courtyard. Heating is by electric storage radiators in the living room, kitchen and both bedrooms. There is an electric hot-air blower in the bathroom. Hot water is from an immersion heater.

THE GATEHOUSE (sleeps 5)
The spacious living room has a log burning stove, dining table and chairs, comfortable seating and a TV with VCR/DVD/CD player. A glazed door leads out to a private garden. The kitchen is fully equipped (including microwave, toaster and coffee maker). Upstairs are three bedrooms (a double, twin and single) and a bathroom with bath (electric shower over), hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. Heating is by electric storage radiators in the living room and the upstairs hall, by an instant electric heater on the half-landing and by an electric radiant heater in the bathroom. Hot water is from an immersion heater.

GARDEN COTTAGE (sleeps 4)
The living room has a wood burner, dining table and chairs, comfortable seating and a TV with VCR/DVD/CD player. A glazed door leads out to a private enclosed garden. The kitchen is fully equipped (including microwave, toaster and coffee maker). Heating is by electric storage radiators in the living room and both bedrooms and by a radiant heater in the shower-room. Hot water is from an immersion heater.

The cottages are fully equipped and beds are made for your arrival with fresh linen and duvets. A cot is available (please bring bedding) and a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.
