Description: Invercassley Cottage is a former two-roomed traditional Scottish croft, which is over 200 years old. Over the last 25 years it has been lovingly restored and converted into a large spacious house. We purchased the property in 2002, as a holiday home for ourselves in the Highlands and future place to retire to. We hope that when you stay at the cottage you will fall in love with it as we did on our first visit, and that you will feel it is a home not just a holiday cottage. The cottage itself is a mixture of both old and new, featuring rooms from the old croft, and a bright airy modern extension. It is small enough for a romantic break for two (we’ve already had two honeymoons here), and yet there is room enough for a large gathering of family and friends. The cottage has over an acre and a half of grounds; both a well maintained cottage garden and a large wildlife area. One of the great features of the cottage has to be its location, with unrivalled views over the Sutherland countryside and its wealth of wildlife and birds. The cottage features two double bedrooms , and one bunk bed room all with hand baisins and plenty of storage. There are two bathrooms, a modern well fitted kitchen, well stocked with everything you would need for up to 8 guests. Here you will also find files containing Tourist Information leaflets and a selection of road, tourist, walking and cycling maps and routes that you are welcome to borrow during your stay. The lounge is one of the original croft rooms, cosy with oak beams and a wood burner perfect for curling up in front of on a cold winters night. (Logs and coal provided). Here you will also find a TV/DVD/Video, stereo and CD player with a wide selection of videos, DVD's and cds for the whole family. There is a small libary from childrens books, reference books, books on a Scottish theme to bestselling novels. There is also a wide selection of children's games and boxed family games stored here. In the utility room you will find a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron, ironing board, cleaning tools and a ceiling airer. Also available are garden table and chairs and a BBQ. Location: Invercassley cottage is situated in the village of Rosehall, within the district of Sutherland. It is the most northern district of Scotland, and with a population of only 6 people per square mile it is one of the least densely populated areas in Europe. Sutherland has been described as one of the last great wildernesses in Europe, and with 3 distinct coasts on its borders it surely has something for everyone. On the West coast there are rugged cliffs, rocky inlets and sea lochs. On the East are award winning beaches, golf courses and nature reserves. Whilst its central and northern areas range from wide open plains, to marshlands, and onto stunning highland scenery of rolling hills, inland lochs and spectacular views. With good road, rail and air links to the district it is an ideal holiday location, and a great base for touring the Scottish Highlands. Rosehall lies at the heart of Sutherland, just over an hours scenic drive from Inverness, with both the East and West coasts easily accessible. Rosehall is a small village with a scattered population of about 200, which despite its size has a wonderful community spirit with many village activities regularly organized at the village hall. Within the village there is a hotel and pub, and village shop (with post office and off licence.) Located close to the rivers Oykel and Cassley (which merge into the Kyle of Sutherland), Rosehall is a mecca for fishermen looking for both trout and salmon. In addition there are a great variety of walks and cycle routes to follow in Rosehall, that take in the rivers, waterfalls, wooded glens and heather covered hills that surround the area. During your stay you will certainly encounter the wealth of wildlife in the area: from roe, sika and red deer on the hills, hen harrier, buzzards and ospreys in the air, otters, salmon and dippers in or by the rivers and a wealth of garden and song birds. These are just some of the reasons to spend time in the Rosehall area, so why not stop and discover them for yourselves. |
