Description: Ulva House and Cottage were built in 1864 by Capt. George and Mrs Mary Ritchie, wealthy merchant, steamship master and the first owner of the Mishnish Hotel. Their eldest son was Alexander Ritchie who with his wife Euphemia. Created the world renowned jewellery for their shop, Iona Celtic Art, on the Isle of Iona. Ulva House and Cottage remained in their family until 1957. Location: Ulva House Cottage, built within the grounds of Ulva House, is detached with its own private entrance and parking area to the side. It enjoys prominent views over Tobermory Bay and the mountains beyond the Sound of Mull. Situated within the conservation area of upper Tobermory, Ulva House is an ideal base from which to explore the island and also a quiet place to relax away from the traffic and more populated areas. Many good walks start nearby. The seafront and village of Tobermory, with its many good restaurants, shops, pubs and amenities, is only five minutes walk away, as is Tobermory Golf course with its spectacular views. |
