Description: St Margaret's cottage is located in a secluded setting on the edge of Coldingham Conservation Village in rural Berwickshire, Scotland. It has a charming south-facing garden completely walled and hedged, and is in a particularly peaceful country lane with pleasant walks nearby. The cottage nestles in a slight hillside, and the sea can be seen from the driveway, which is lined with shrubs and flowers. Coldingham village is within easy walking distance (300 metres) and there are many sites of interest and amenities nearby. The cottage has recently been sympathetically restored and refurbished to a very high standard by the present owners. The original features and the special atmosphere of the cottage, which is over 100 years old, have been retained. There is parking for two cars. St. Margaret's has a no smoking policy. The accommodation comprises: 1 double bedroom; 1 twin-bedded room (beds can be pushed together); bathroom with large shower (not bath) and under floor heating; living room with a beautiful Norwegian cast iron stove (gas-fired), colour TV/Video, payphone, CD player; conservatory with under floor heating; fitted kitchen with fridge-freezer, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer and a comfortable dining area. There is a lovely conservatory also with under floor heating. Garden furniture is also provided. Location: Coldingham village is a charming conservation village located in the Scottish Borders three miles north-east of Eyemouth. At the centre of the village are the remains of a Benedictine priory which grew out of a church founded in 1098 by King Edgar. Coldingham Abbey is regarded as one of the most interesting smaller Benedictine houses - it has been sacked many times. There are also a number of Iron Age sites in the vicinity. Coldingham is situated in a shallow basin two miles inland from the coast. St. Abb's, formerly known as Coldingham Shore, is home to a National Trust Nature Reserve, St. Abb's Head, with its famous sea bird cliffs. There are lovely cliff top walks and a beautiful beach. In Coldingham there are two pubs serving bar food and a village store. The quickest way into the village from St. Margaret's is to walk down the lane in front of the Cottage, cross the stream and turn right at the ford into the village. A good range of shops, including a small supermarket, is available in Eyemouth where fresh seafood can be bought, including lobsters in season. There is a large supermarket ten miles away in Berwick-on-Tweed. |
