Description: Dating from c.1800, Mill Cottage faces south in a sublime rural setting, surrounded by its own grounds and overlooking unspoilt pastureland. Standing adjacent to the former watermill, it comprises the greater part of the old mill house with own enclosed and secluded cottage garden. A wonderful, peaceful retreat from which to explore the Cotswolds and Shakespeare country. Ideal for those who love the countryside and traditional Cotswold features such as flagstone floor, beamed ceilings, window seats and shutters, but with thoroughly modern facilities such as internet access! The surrounding 3.5 acres are a magnet to wildlife - particularly birds; and our own little small holding with sheep, geese and hens, and Liz’s pottery studio can provide further interest. Children, particularly, will love it here! Location: Chipping Norton - 1½ miles east of Mill Cottage is an attractive small market town, perched on a hill overlooking Glyme and Evenlode valleys, a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are two small supermarkets, a delicatessen and two traditional butchers; three cafes, an abundance of pubs, several restaurants, including French, Chinese and Indian and, of course, Fish and Chip shops! There is a good information centre, a museum and a really wonderful little theatre, which is worth a visit not only for its programme of plays, music and film but to see the fabulous murals which decorate the bar and gallery. Centrally positioned for Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick Castle, Blenheim Palace, Oxford, Cheltenham and Evesham, with Bath and Gloucester also within easy reach, Mill Cottage is very close to Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden and Burford, all famous for antiques and the Cotswold gems, Broadway, Bourton-on-the-Water and the Slaughters. Some of the most exquisite small villages are just on our doorstep, try a visit to Oddington and its 12C church with its medieval wall painting, or the tiny rural church and hamlet at Little Rollright close to the fascinating bronze-age Rollright Stones circle. Or visit the traditional brewery at Hook Norton, or take a picnic to Bledington or to Broadwell and walk over the old village green. There are wonderful pubs around here too, very old, with low doorways, beams, flagstone floors, first class local beer and excellent food, And for children? try the Cotswold Wildlife park just beyond Burford; big game, reptiles, penguins, owls, tropical birds, rare monkeys and insects! or the Rare Breeds Farm Park at Guiting Power for close encounters with Britain’s old fashioned domestic animals, or the Falconry Centre at Batsford, or the 19thC working farm museum at Cogges, Witney. |
