Fowl Green Farm

Description: Fowl Green Farm is a traditional hill sheep farm close to the village of Commondale. It sits on a south facing slope above the beck, at the end of a two mile bridle path. Accommodation is in four cottages, accessible to all with ground floor bedrooms and adapted bath/shower rooms, natural slate flagstone, non slip floors, under floor heating and fully equipped adapted kitchens. All cottages are ETC 3 and 4 *, mobility level 3. All have wide doors to all rooms with outside patio, barbeques and garden areas. There is an accessible communal lounge/games room with open log fire for groups to get together. There is a TV, video player, DVD player, Hifi and a selection of games, books, tapes, cds and dvds. Linen and towels are provided at no extra cost and all heating is included. A cot, high chair, wheel in shower chair and toilet riser seat is available if required.

Location: This is a working family farm with animals which include sheep, free range hens, highland cattle and Nell the sheep dog. We are also part of a conservation scheme and have planted hundreds of oak trees and wildflowers. The area is rich in wildlife including deer, rabbits, other small animals and a wide variety of birds. Fowl Green Farm is ideal as a base for walking, riding and cycling. A safe place for children to play, there are fields for ball games or just to play in, streams to paddle in, trees to climb and an exercise field for dogs. We have a local falconer, who is happy to display his birds and give demonstrations of them flying. The area is very popular with artists and photographers, many of whom have galleries displaying their work locally. The farm is set in the North York Moors National Park, in the Whitby district and surrounded by Heartbeat country. It is one of several pretty villages set in the Esk Valley all of which cater for visitors with quaint pubs, tea shops and attractions like the Esk Valley Steam Railway. The nearest seaside is Saltburn, only 7 miles away, a Victorian spa town with a funicular lift down the cliff to the sea and the pier. This seaside is good for digging and paddling and has a thriving surfers culture and artists colony. Further along the coast are the historical villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Sandsend, which lead on to the beautiful and ancient port of Whitby. Built on a steep hillside with the Abbey perched on top of the cliff, 199 steps up, there are cobbled streets, attractive shops and famous links with Captain Cook and Dracula. Whitby has regular folk and music festivals Fowl Green Farm is also close enough to visit York, the beautiful and ancient capital city of Yorkshire and Durham, an equally beautiful and historic capital city of the county of Durham.
