Location:
Dent retains a real feel of the past with its quaint cobbled streets and whitewashed stone cottages. Its Heritage Centre lets you step back in time to learn about the working lives and social customs of the dalesfolk who inhabited this beautiful area in times past. Craft shops, galleries and teashops are well worth a visit and Dent even boasts its own brewery. Sample this locally made beer in the friendly village pubs where you can also get snacks and home made meals. In the centre of the village, opposite the George and Dragon pub is the historic Adam Sedgwick granite memorial. This memorial took a team of eight horses to erect. Sedgwick was the Countrys leading expert in geology and near this spot, Sedgwick proclaimed the news of the victory at Waterloo to the village. Dent is also a walkers paradise. Its position offers the most wonderful opportunities for short or long distance walks. There are short easy walks along the River Dee and up Flintergill, longer walks around Cowgill and Deepdale and the Dales Way passes through Dentdale for the more advanced, or there are the famous Three Peaks for the really energetic! Caving, horse riding, paragliding, cycling and fishing on the River dee are also available locally. For those who enjoy a more relaxing holiday, why not just stroll around the village and return to enjoy the comforts and warm welcome of Dragon Cottage. The scenery is unique, created by the famous Dent Fault that has divided the Dale into two, leaving a typical Lakeland landscape to the West and a more rolling Dales-like countryside to the East.
