In summer the towns continental style of on street cafes and dazzling colourful hanging baskets give way to a fairy winter wonderland of Christmas lights. In all seasons, Holt is an ideal base to explore the North Norfolk hinterland, whether to the coast or the countryside. Close by is a pleasant Common Sprouts Hill.

Holt Country Park, just south of the town, is a 100 acre woodland that hosts family events throughout the year as well as offering walks for all abilities. The untamed ever changing beauty of North Norfolk's coastline and the rich appeal of its countryside & meandering byways make this a destination for all seasons.

North Norfolk has always earned its living from the land and the sea, and this special relationship is apparent in every corner, from the towering, opulent churches built on the profits of a thriving medieval wool trade to the fishing boats pulled up on the shore. The dramatic landscape is a sanctuary for wildlife, ideal for bird watching.

Charming market towns and picture postcard villages, where lovingly husbanded estates radiate around majestic stately homes. A wander along the North Norfolk coast is a trip through pretty villages & untamed scenery. From the vast expanse of Holkham Bay in the west, to the pristine sands of Sea Palling in the east, three quarters of North Norfolk's 43 miles of coastline is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Whether you crave the solitude of windswept beaches or prefer sunbathing on the seafront of a bustling resort town, there is a stretch of shore for you. Holkham beach is a breathtaking panorama - so broad that at low tide, it is a mile's walk across golden sand from the fringe of pine woods to the water.

At Wells stilt high colourful beach huts look out across the beach. Blakeney Point offers a wilderness walk along dunes, rare terns breed in the safety of the National Trust's reserve, and a trip from the harbour to see the seals is a must. Near Cley, the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's new visitor centre gives spectacular views across the reeded bird sanctuary.

A Steam train runs from Holt to Sheringham, a lovely journey back in time. Sheringham, Cromer, Overstrand and Mundesley hark back to Victoian & Edwardian times, where crab pots & buoys adorn the seafronts.
