Eastburn Cottage

Description:

Originally a 17th century cottage with stone mullion windows that has since been enlarged with modern additions but with similar style and tradition. A path leads by the side of the house to give access through a large hallway which also serves as a utility room with laundering and cloakroom facilities. Through the hallway is a well equipped kitchen with dining area that includes a Rayburn stove, as well as the normal cooking facilities, which leads to the cosy main lounge with beamed ceiling and stone fireplace containing woodburning stove. This lounge in turn leads to a smaller lounge with a sofa and separate shower room, with washbasin and toilet, providing facilities for the partially disabled. A pine stairway rises from the kitchen to a landing serving three bedrooms and pine panelled bathroom with bath, washbasin and toilet. The largest of the three bedrooms has twin beds and en-suite with shower, washbasin and toilet the second having a double bed and the third small bedroom with a single bed. There are pleasant views across the dale and towards the fellsides from the bedrooms particularly to the rear of the cottage. To the side of the entrance path is a stone flagged patio area and a small lawned garden with a further small railed patio garden to the front of the cottage. The original 17th century mullions, beams and joists enhanced by mellow pine fitments and quality furnishing provide cosy accommodation to very high standard. Duvets and pillows are provided with linen included in the rent. Towels can be supplied at an extra cost of £1.50 per person. Electric storage heating, logs for woodburner, Rayburn and electricity included. 2 colour televisions, DVD, radio/tape/CD, microwave oven, automatic washer, tumble dryer, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, shaver points, hairdryer, cot and high chair, garden furniture, barbecue. Off road parking for two cars, cycle store. Baby sitting. Pub 300 yards, shop 1 mile, bus route nearby. Sorry, not suitable for pets. Strictly non smoking.

Location:

In lower Bishopdale where the glacial moraine and drumlins cause small undulations in the landscape the village of Newbiggin nestles close to the valley floor on the south side of the dale. The village is peaceful, long and linear with the houses intermittent about a narrow street that is linked to the B6160 by a minor road and small lane but has no through traffic. Although Newbiggin means ‘New Buildings’ the term is relative since here are some of the finest examples of 17th century dwellings in the dales.
