Description:
Mistle House is an interesting conversion of a former mistle or cow byre and its associated grain stores which stands in open countryside between the villages of Laverton and Galphay. Entry to the rear of the cottage is through a tiled hallway which serves as a utility and cloakroom plus adjoining fully tiled shower room and toilet. Down two small steps from the hallway is a spacious fitted kitchen, a further four steps take you down to a low level dining room which is only partially separated from the kitchen so that conversation can continue between chef and diner. Off the dining room is a bedroom with both a double and single bed. From the kitchen double doors lead to a spacious lounge including feature stonework and a wood-burning stove with stone hearth. An external door from the lounge leads down five stone steps to a patio area and lawn. A stairway rises from the dining room to a spacious double bedroom with roof-lights to watch the stars and a half tiled bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, washbasin and toilet. There are external stone steps from the garden to the bedroom which are a remnant from the days when grain was carried to the loft but are still accessible today. To the side and front of the house is a large lawn and gravelled area overlooking open rolling countryside. The house has been skilfully designed and meticulously converted with a high quality of workmanship. The inclusion of laminate floors throughout, stained panel doors and other features such as exposed oak posts and masonry mix history and tradition within a modern context. A charming and pristine home set in a peaceful location within an unspoilt area of natural beauty, who could want for more? Sorry, not suitable for pets and strictly non smoking.
Location:
On the western edge of the Vale of York downstream from the ‘Gateway’ town of Masham the river Ure turns southeast gently slipping away from the fading Pennine hills. Minor tributaries with their becks and gills still cut deep into the distant heights and merge into greater flows to part the sloping Pennine flanks and form an area of lesser rolling valleys which was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1994. The River Laver is one such tributary flowing on its sinuous path over 10 miles to join the River Skell on the outskirts of the small historic city of Ripon. From the high pastures on the nearby Pennines the Laver flows through undulating meadows, occasional cornfields, woodland, isolated farms and small villages linked by winding lanes. Kirkby Malzeard is the principal village of the area with its own pubs, shops and a garage but there are many other attractive villages to explore such as Grantley, Winksley and Galphay. The Pennine beauty of Nidderdale, the country Mansion of Grantley Hall, and the woodlands of Hackfall are on the doorstep. The National Trust World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and the associated Studley Royal and Studley Park are only a few miles away as are the fantastic and often grotesque shapes of Brimham Rocks, a natural geological formation which covers over 50 acres of heather moorland. Ripon, Harrogate and York are all within easy driving distance as are the western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
