Description:
The Old Corn Mill is an imposing, stone-worked building standing on the southern fringe of the village close to Bishopdale Beck. The Mill has been converted into three residential apartments, with the Garden Flat being the lowest yet still having an elevated outlook. A pebbled patio garden leads to the entrance which opens into a hall and landing serving all rooms. There is a comfortable lounge/dining room with views out to Bishopdale and Morpeth Scar, two large bedrooms, one with a double the other twin beds, a tiled bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and toilet and a well fitted kitchen. To the side of the Old Corn Mill is a secluded, gravelled picnic area with shrubs. The Garden Flat is quite elevated and enjoys pleasant views from the lounge and the bedroom window seats to sit and peruse the dales. The rooms are light and airy with soft tones in decor and furnishings and the inclusion of pine furniture to give a cosy feel. Duvets and pillows are provided with linen and towels included in the rent. Electric storage heaters and electricity all included. Electric 'living flame' stove, fan heaters. Colour television, DVD, clock radio, radio/cassette/CD player, microwave oven, automatic washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, shaver point, hairdryer, cot and high chair by request, telephone, garden furniture. Garage space for one car, further parking in the private car park. Shop and pub 300 yards away. Bus route nearby. One well behaved dog welcome. Please note this cottage is let on a Friday to Friday basis and not the usual Saturday to Saturday.
Location:
In the lower reaches of Bishopdale the steep valley sides unfold and the high fells of Stake and Wasset diminish as the valley is embraced by first Walden to the south and then Wensleydale to the north. The flat valley floor also rises and undulates with drumlins and moraine deposited in the glacial past, narrowing the dale and providing a platform to bridge Bishopdale Beck. Here is where the village of Thoralby nestles into the southern slopes amongst rich meadows, woodland and pasture with a vantage that views to Bishopdale, the slopes of Wasset Fell, Penhill and on into Wensleydale. The village is small but straggling with lanes and footpaths running to the higher fells or surrounding hamlets and farmhouses. A tranquil place with a small village green at its heart but a community large enough to support a shop/Post Office and local pub.
