Ground Floor Apartment

Description:

West Burton is recognised as one of the loveliest villages in the Yorkshire Dales and is unique with its large green, market cross, stocks and no through traffic. The old watermill occupies a superb location by Walden Beck, with nearby waterfalls, pools and a pack horse bridge. The waterfall pools provide swimming on the doorstep and fishing is permitted in season to resident holidaymakers. Numerous footpaths cross the nearby dales and hills providing spectacular views and clean bracing air. The Ground Floor is a delightful and stylish three bedroom apartment retaining many of the original mill workings. With its proximity to Walden beck the elevated position provides views out over the water, to the waterfall and surrounding area. A perfect vantage to watch the constant changes in the beck, its environs and wildlife. Four stone steps lead over a flagged veranda and through double doors into a wide panelled hallway with space for boots and coats. To the left of the hall is a spacious lounge with a central kitchen and separate dining area. The lounge has a polished oak floor and rustic wooden fireplace with a ‘living flame’ stove. Through the lounge is a small lobby leading to a useful drying room and a tranquil bedroom with double bed. To the right of the entrance hall is a panelled bathroom with flagged floor, bath, power shower, washbasin and toilet. Also off the entrance hall is a vaulted, twin bedroom with beams supporting old mill workings in this the original upper wheelhouse. From this bedroom a spiral stairway rises to a twin bedroom with roof-lights and a separate toilet. The ceiling of this upper room is quite low making this ideal for older children. The retention of many original features, including exposed stonework, wood and flagged floors, blending with antique pine doors and a rich mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings add warmth and character to this apartment which offers a very high standard of accommodation. Duvets and pillows are provided with linen and towels included in the rent. Oil-fired central heating and electricity all included. Colour television, video/DVD, radio/cassette/CD player, microwave oven, automatic washer, tumble dryer, shaver point. Off road parking. Shop, pub, bus route 300 yards. Sorry, not suitable for children under 5. Sorry, not suitable for pets. Strictly non smoking. Please note this cottage is let on a Friday to Friday basis and not the usual Saturday to Saturday.

Location:

West Burton, acclaimed by many to be one of the most beautiful villages in England, rests snugly in a deep sheltered valley at the juncture of Walden Dale, Bishopdale and Wensleydale. Nearby, high fell sides rise steeply to form a spectacular setting to this most picturesque of dales villages, and on climbing can give unrivalled panoramas of the surrounding dales and distant views of the Vale of York and North York Moors. Walden Beck skirts the village and descends over rocky outcrops in a spectacular waterfall with deep pools and minor cascades held in a tree lined gorge to form a natural arena of beauty and relaxation. The village surrounds an expansive green centred by an ancient market cross and, because of its position away from the main traffic routes, still offers traditional rural tranquillity. This is particularly true of the green where, here and there, small bench seats prompt social rendezvous and easy conversation. It is served by a bus route and is ideally placed as a base for exploration of the dales and fells whether on foot or by car. There is no need, however, to travel for the basics in life as West Burton contains a pub, butchers shop and Post Office/general store.
